Better to be thought a fool than to be Jamie Jones and think being a "Pissed-off Redneck" is a good thing

Mr. stick-head politician
I got some news for you
If you want to come
Tryin’ to take my gun
Son you better be bulletproof

There are few things in this world I find more aggravating than the elevation of one’s own ignorance and prejudice as if it’s something to be proud of, a standard to which many aspire but few attain. There’s a line from Animal House that might be applicable here: “Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son.”

As much as I love country music, it has an unfortunate tendency to attract fans who could only charitably be described as (to borrow a phrase from Newt Gingrich) “low information voters.” I won’t insult their intelligence, as far too many hardly need my help to do that. One of the hottest songs in country music is by Jamie Jones, for whom those “low information voters” seem to be his fan base. “Pissed Off Rednecks” is nothing if not a paean to ignorance, hatred, and racism. Seeing threats where none exist, hating others for professing a different faith, and creatively interpreting the 2nd Amendment to their advantage aren’t things I’d think would normally be the gateway to a successful career as a country music star. Jones certainly knows his audience…and he’s willing to pander to them and validate their ignorance as if it’s something to be celebrated.

“Pissed Off Rednecks” is as ridiculous as it is insulting, the sort of thing that would be listened to by people who have a “Liberal Hunting Permit” sticker on the back window of their F-150. These are people who don’t understand what people different from themselves may think. Nor do they particularly care, because they self-identify as “real” Americans. That the views and religion of others might be equally valid to theirs is something that would never occur to them, because tolerance and acceptance are two words their 8th-grade education can’t process.

And don’t try to tell my children
When and where to pray

No one is telling your children when and where they may exercise their religion…unless you consider the separation of Church and State (meaning no preaching or praying in public schools) to be just another Libtard plot to cede power to our homosexual Muslim overlords. If you want your children to learn Christianity, then good on you…but don’t expect that our public schools double as substitute churches. Public schools are for education, not indoctrination. They’re supposed to teach critical thinking skills, not blind obedience to authority.

What you fail (or refuse) to recognize is that America isn’t a Christian nation. If you understood anything about American history, you’d understand that. America is NOT a Christian nation, the Constitution was not handed down from Moses on a stone tablet, and you don’t get to impose your religious view on others simply because you believe your Imaginary Friend to be the bestest. America is a secular nation in which an 80% majority self-identify as Christians…but that doesn’t make America a Christian nation. If you want a country that allows the commingling of Church and State, might I recommend Iran or Saudi Arabia? Good luck with demanding your right to liberty and personal freedom there, eh?

This is coming from real America, son
And pissed off rednecks like me

REAL America? You mean to tell me that REAL Americans are ignorant, xenophobic, racist homophobes and bigots who believe that being White, Christian, Conservative, and “low information” put you at the top of the food chain? That ignoring the views and sensibilities of others while demanding yours be respected is what REAL Americans do?

That sort of arrogance and self-righteousness is pretty pathetic, don’tchathink?

No, I won’t push one for English
I just as soon hang up the phone

No, you shouldn’t push for English. I don’t know what language you think you’re speaking, but it’s barely English. You can’t speak or write your native language anything close to properly…yet you feel you have the innate right to hold yourself above others. It’s almost as if you’re proud of your ignorance and refusal to see the world in any way but through your your own racist, homophobic, “low information” filter.

Mama must be SO proud….

If you wanna serve in a Muslim church
Go and take your ass back home

That person “wanting to serve” in a Muslim church is probably an American citizen like yourself. That means they have every bit as much right to practice their religion as you do yours…not that you actually practice it, right? You probably haven’t been to church in years and I suspect that if any more dust collected on that Bible on your shelf, you’d need an air filter. No matter; Jesus is your homeboy, right?

Unfortunately, “Pissed Off Redneck” is an anthem for the sort of people John Cleese once described as being too stupid to recognize just how truly, deeply stupid they are. Ignorance, hatred, and homophobia aren’t qualities to be proud of…unless you’re the sort of person who thinks Jamie Jones is a prophet and “Pissed Off Rednecks” is a song that highlights REAL Americans.

Oh, and by the way…in case you haven’t figured this out over the past six-plus years, no one’s coming for your guns. If the government was to come to confiscate guns, I’d hope they’d start with those who think “Pissed Off Rednecks” celebrates them as real, true Americans.

Welcome to our new idiocracy.
