It's Texas, so who says women aren't property?

Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler) put forward an amendment that would make it illegal to terminate a pregnancy after 20 weeks, even if a fetus “has a severe and irreversible abnormality,” effectively forcing families with wanted, but unsustainable pregnancies to carry to term at the behest of the state and against the advice of their doctors or their own wishes.

Yes, you read that correctly. Rep. Schaefer, a Penis-American with a deep-seated hatred of women, has proposed legislation that could require a woman to carry a dead fetus to term. Why? Because men should be able to dictate what women do with their bodies, that’s why. And because, as Rep. Schaefer says, suffering is “part of the human condition, since sin entered the world.” I know; sometimes words escape me. I’m not certain I possess the vocabulary to adequately describe the world class levels of clueless, classless, disturbingly dangerous derp evidenced by Rep. Schaefer. If stupid could be considered a virtue, we could bypass the Vatican and beatify him right now. How else would you reward a man who’d force a woman carrying a dead fetus to go against a doctor’s recommendation and their own wishes? If I was unfortunate enough to be the woman in his life, I’d kick his ass from here to Palm Sunday…and you could bet he won’t be getting any nookie anytime soon.

Sometimes I find myself despairing for the intellectual and moral future of our Republic- not from a religious standpoint, of course, but because there really are people who feel they have the God-given right to dictate how others should live their lives. As if being a hyper-religious, intolerant zealot in possession of a penis confers upon one the right to (nay, the responsibility) to dictate what women can and can’t do with their bodies. There’s simply no logical or medical reason why a woman should carry a dead fetus to term. Indeed, it can be a very dangerous thing to do, what with the danger of the mother dying from sepsis and all. Perhaps it’s like the old witch test: dump a woman in a pool; if she sinks and drown, she’s not a witch. If she floats, she’s a witch and should be killed. If she dies from sepsis, then obviously she’s not a witch…amiright??

How do moral reprobates and knuckle draggers like Rep. Schaefer get elected? Well, people who LIKE what he stands for vote for him; that’s how. Meaning that Rep. Schaefer is merely the tip of a massive iceberg of ignorance and misogyny. Making matters worse is that his amendment actually passed, but he pulled it from further consideration after a legislative point of order in opposition.

Congratulations, Texas; you have EXACTLY the quality of leadership you deserve.
