I respect people who call themselves Conservative and actually understand what term means. These are generally thoughtful souls who simply have a different take on the role of government than I do. Fair enough. Informed consent (and dissent) is what makes for a vibrant, functional democracy.
Unfortunately, too many today call themselves “Conservative” while having NO clue about conservatism…perhaps because it’s shorter than “authoritarian, intolerant, hypocritical, judgmental zealot.” If you believe in government small enough to enforce your pet social agenda, discriminate against those not like you, and ensure that the social safety net is available to you but not others, you’re not a Conservative. You’re a sociopath…and sadly, “sociopathic” is an apt description of today’s Right-wing.
There’s just no way I could make this stuff up….
