More great moments in Conservative "leadership": The "Irony is not dead, but it's certainly mortally wounded" edition

On a daily basis, I’m bombarded with stories that make my life one continuous “WTF??” moment. I try hard to live my life in a way that respects people for who they are and treats people with dignity…yet I’m constantly astonished at the number of arrogant, self-superior busybodies who believe they possess the right to determine what’s right and wrong for others. They’re willing to dictate what others should believe, how they should live, even who they may choose to live and commit their lives to.

It fascinates me that so many who proclaim their undying commitment to protecting freedom and liberty (their own, as it turns out) are so willing to deny the same to others whose only crime is thinking, believing, living, and/or loving differently. They demand with the fiercest of passions that their rights be respected…yet they feel no corresponding responsibility to provide the same consideration to others.

In the end, it’s not about rights, or liberty, or freedom. It’s about a class of angry, judgmental, narrow-minded bigots who arrogantly believe themselves to be the Chosen Ones and that they and they alone have the right to create a world suited to their fears and prejudice…and expect all of us to respect their decrees.

C’mon, y’all…why ya gotta be like that?? Is it really so difficult to live and let live, to model the belief in liberty and freedom you so loudly and forthrightly claim to believe in? Or do you really just get off by meddling in the private affairs of others? As if the following doesn’t amply demonstrate that to be a rhetorical question….

Rick Santorum tells demon-obsessed lawmaker that Iranians can’t be trusted because they’re theocrats: Ah, but Christian theocrats are trustworthy? Man, I do believe my head’s about to ‘splode.

Michigan Lawmaker: Hold Pro-LGBT Schools Liable for Student STDs: That’s a GREAT idea…as long as schools are held responsible for STDs from heterosexual activity. And…cut to the sound of crickets….

Jeb Bush: A ‘tolerant country’ should allow discrimination based upon ‘religious beliefs’: Day is night. Black is white. Discrimination is tolerance. Welcome to the fun house mirror that is Conservative politics today.

Wal-Mart hides $76 billion in overseas tax havens while taxpayers help feed low-wage workers: study: When Joe and Ethel Sixpack hide their money in tax shelters, it’s called “tax evasion.” When corporations and the 1% do it, it’s called a “sound business practice.”

Donald Trump is running for president, and he is already hilarious: Today’s arrogant, self-absorbed champion of lack of self-awareness comes to us as if he was the answer to a nation crying out for leadership…or amusing ineptitude.

Cliff Kincaid Pledges To Fight To The Death Against Gay Marriage Before It Destroys America: Let’s hope he’s a man of his word. I’d even offer to pass the hat to pay for his funeral expenses…because burying him in what he deserves- a cardboard box in a toxic waste dump- should be relatively inexpensive.

NH GOPers demand RNC official shut up or resign after learning she supports gay marriage: Because freedom of conscience simply isn’t an option for Republicans, who have no option but to respect what the Conservative hive mind demands of them.

Beck: Donald Trump Is ‘The Biggest Flaming [Ass] That You Could Possibly Imagine’: If anyone knows big flaming asses, it’s Glenn Beck, who’s the President of his local chapter of Big Flaming Asses of America.

Men’s rights fanatics defend Iowa mall shooter fired for sexual harassment: It’s ‘hard to blame him’: Does no one accept responsibility for their actions anymore? I’m sorry, but sexual harassment is actually a very easy thing to avoid being accused of. It’s called “treating women with respect and dignity”…not exactly a new or radical concept, eh?

Michael Savage: Use Immigrants To Build The Border Wall, Then Deport Them: Exploit them for their labor…and then kick them out? Why not exterminate them? Yeah, he’s probably already thinking of that. What a classy guy.

Fox host freaks out over ‘Marxist’ Pope Francis: He is ‘the most dangerous person on the planet’: If by “most dangerous person on the planet,” you mean someone willing to question the established order and call out those who don’t treat our environment with respect, I want to be a “Marxist.”

Rick Santorum: Heterosexual Parents Are a ‘Birthright’: Uh, no…caring, loving parents are a birthright. Why should we care about their sexuality as long as they’re committed to loving and protecting their children? It’s not as if heterosexual parents hold a monopoly on loving children.

Pennsylvania GOPer pushes lifetime welfare ban for people convicted of selling drugs: Judgmental, intolerant, mean-spirited…and evidently built to stay that way.

Why Rupert Murdoch Labeled Hillary Clinton ‘Almost Fascist’: Because it’s been a long, long time since he took a good look at himself in the mirror? Sounds as if someone’s lacking in the self-awareness department, eh?

President Santorum Will Protect Children From Gay Marriage: How does he think he’ll do that when he can’t even protect himself from being a euphemism for the aftermath of anal sex is beyond my puny ability to reason.

Lindsey Graham’s Army: ‘Discrimination That Makes Sense’: It’s what good, Conservative Christians would do- hate those not like themselves, just like Jesus would.

Jeb Bush thinks Pope Francis should avoid climate change: Stick to ‘making us better as people’: “Making us better as people”…sounds like sound advice, eh? Would the Bush had that wherewithal to take his own advice. F’rinstance, he could start by not lying so much. Or pandering to the American Taliban. Or tossing cheap, gratuitous personal insults at Hillary Clinton. That would pretty much take care of everything.

Fox’s Keith Ablow thinks lying about his age is a hilarious new way to mock transgender people: When I look in the dictionary under “Miserable excuse for a human being,” imagine my (lack of) surprise when I found a picture of Keith Ablow.

Jeb Bush vows to ‘fix’ Washington as he officially starts White House run: And he even managed to kick his campaign off with a lie. Stay classy, eh?
