There is no inalienable right to openly carry firearms in a restaurant or airport or mall or....

I personally enjoy hunting and also have my concealed carry license, as do others at Whataburger. From a business standpoint, though, we have to think about how open carry impacts our employees and customers. We’ve had many customers and employees tell us they’re uncomfortable being around someone with a visible firearm who is not a member of law enforcement, and as a business, we have to listen and value that feedback. We have a responsibility to make sure everyone who walks into our restaurants feels comfortable. For that reason, we don’t restrict licensed concealed carry but do ask customers not to open carry in our restaurants.

Nowhere in the 2nd Amendment doe it say, or even imply, that the “right to bear arms” means anything, anywhere, and/or any time. Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © have chose to interpret it in a way that conveniently dovetails with their angry, fear-based, self-centered view of the world. In so doing, they’ve turned the 2nd Amendment into the most thoroughly misunderstood and willfuly misinterpreted 27 words in the English Language. Neither immutable, inalienable, or God-given, the 2nd Amendment addresses a period in our history that’s no longer comparable to the world we live in today. Yet Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © view it as if was handed down by God His Own Self and meant to apply to any conceivable situation for ever and ever, Amen.

I might grant you your “immutable, inalienable, and God-given” right to bear arms…all you need to do is tell me what “well-regulated militia” you belong to.

Go ahead; I’ll wait.

Yeah, I thought so. Guess what y’all, despite your angry protestations and willful ignorance of what the 2nd Amendment actually says (and means), those 27 words aren’t a license to openly carry whatever your want, wherever you want, and/or whenever you want. Those who represent your interests may have purchased a Congress and many state legislatures, but a seemingly infinite number of wrongs still don’t make a right. There’s no “immutable, inalienable, and God-given” right to enter a business or public space with an AR-15 slung over yourself. That sort of thing only says A) You’re compensating for certain “shortcomings,” B) You have significant anger control issues, C) You don’t given a damn about anyone’s right and/or safety save your own, or D) All of the above. If that isn’t the very definition of immaturity and irresponsibility, I don’t know what would be.

It’s been left to good, decent, and respectful Americans who actually care about others to demand that Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © be reigned in. No one should have to worry about their safety or that of their family and loved ones because and angry White male with anger control issues is prancing around a mall with an assault weapon.

Sadly, since government has proven itself to be in the pockets of groups like the NRA, it’s been left up to businesses in many states to draw the line. No business can hope to thrive, much less survive, if customers fear for their safety. Companies like Whataburger understand the role and importance of guns in American society…but they also know that customers need to feel safe or they’ll stay home.

As we’ve seen demonstrated time and again, the difference between a “good guy with a gun” prancing around a mall and a mass shooting is a mere split-second. Depsite what Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © will inevitably use as an argument to support their position, more guns don’t make everyone safer. In fact, study after study have proven just the opposite…and repeating a lie frequently and fervently doesn’t make it true.

Somehow, businesses need to find the courage to stand up to the bullies and make it clear that they value the rights and safety of their customers over the immorally inaccurate self-perceived “rights” Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © claim as their due.

It’s time we screamed, “ENOUGH!” and put Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © in their place. Or do we consider the occasional mass murder to be merely the price of freedom…as long as it’s someone else burying their child or loved one?
