Jesus: The ultimate "Get Out of Jail Free!!" card

Todd has gotten a whole lot of messages from other men — yes, men; he apparently hasn’t heard from any women in this situation — who betrayed their marital vows and yet bravely went on with their lives, even though they had put their John Thomases into the warm soft velvety netherparts of women to whom they had not been joined by God. And it is a special fellowship of sinners who have come forward to confess to Todd Courser that they, too, have done the dirty outside the marriage bed. And it makes Todd feel most glad that his sin has led to some solace for these otherwise good men, who are all dirty dirty sinners and who shared with him their private shame[.]

Are you married? Have your strayed from the comforting embrace of your spouse and placed your manhood inside of the warm, moist female space belonging to someone who’s not pledged to you by the holy vows of matrimony? Are you a Christian washed in the blood of Jesus Christ? Well, what are you worried about, then? Rest secure in the knowledge that while secular society may not look kindly upon you dipping your pen into unfamiliar ink, God forgives all trespasses…particularly if you’re male and find yourself in need of a free pass. Todd Courser, a Teapublican Michigan legislator and born-again hypocrite who had an affair with a female legislator and born-again hypocrite.

Turns out the beautiful thing about being a Christian male and being unfaithful is that God always forgives sins (Left unsaid is whether one’s wife would be so sanguine). We ALL screw up, right? Christians are like anyone else- imperfect, prone to thinking with the wrong head- but they’re always forgiven. In fact, knowing that you’re forgiven means that you can go on about your business without having to worry about things non-believers do- like consequences, f’rinstance. In most cases, a hyper-religious “family values” Republican wouldn’t even have to worry about resigning…because when you’ve been forgiven by God, how can mere mortals demand you “do the right thing” and “resign?” If God forgives, shouldn’t Man follow His example?

Courser has gotten so much support from men who’ve strayed from their marriage vows that he feels as if he represents the fallen, those who’ve erred but are now once again traveling the path of righteousness. OF COURSE he must bravely carry on for those he represents, for God is great and He forgives those who sin. If he resigns, what sort of message does that send about being forgiven?

Of course, there’s been no word on whether his wife has forgiven him or plans to do so…but Courser seems far more concerned with his political career and avoiding consequences for his actions than in the commitment represented by his marriage vows. Then again, why would he need to worry about consequences when he knows that God will forgive him? After all, Christians aren’t perfect, just occasionally hypocritical forgiven.
