Sometimes, when I feel myself despairing for the future of humanity, I get off the Internet. Let’s face it; the Internet is probably not where you want to go to have your faith in humanity restored- and today’s all stars will do nothing to make you better about the prospects of the human race. In fact, by the time you make it to the end of this, you could be forgiven for being convinced that people really, really suck.
Steeped as we are in hatred, exclusion, and intolerance, I have to (for the sake of my own sanity) believe that there’s still hope for us. I don’t know what we could reasonably hope for, but I’ve got to think that there are positive qualities (love, acceptance, tolerance, and inclusion would be a good start) that might eventually triumph over the forces of Darkness and Evil. We can hope…but you’ll have to understand why I’m not holding my breath on this count.
Perhaps someday we’ll figure out we’re far better off together, and that love requires far less energy and effort than hatred. Of course, perhaps someday the NFL will blow up the Green Bay Packers and sell them off for parts. A boy can dream…right??
