Today's sign that the Apocalypse is upon us: Is a civilization tolerant of weekly bloodbaths even worthy of the name?

We americans live in a world in which gun violence is publicly abhorred and yet tolerated through inaction. Even the majority who favor some form of common sense gun control are drowned out by the vein-popping never-ending rage of Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes ©, who cling to their gun rights like a baby nursing at his mother’s bosom. They refuse to countenance anything even faintly resembling common sense gun control, seeing it as the inevitable first step in an inexorable effort to take away their guns (would that we could).

No civilized society should stand idly by while madmen continue mowing down innocent victims whose only crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yet it appears that when we failed to rise up in the wake of Sandy Hook, when we decided that the murder of children was not in fact a bridge too far, we implicitly accepted the calculus of Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © that bloodshed is the price of freedom. Actually, that should read, “the bloodshed of others.”

Shouldn’t we be better than this?

There’s been no calendar week without a mass shooting during President Obama’s second term: There are few examples of journalism which detail what’s wrong with America today than Chris Cilliza’s opinion piece.

Jeb Bush shrugs off Oregon shooting: “Stuff happens”: Is being a truly, deeply miserable excuse for a human being a prerequisite for running for President as a Republican? Must one be completely devoid of compassion and human decency?

Surgeon General Doubles Down: Gun Violence Is A ‘Public Health Issue’: So how could one possibly object to this characterization. Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © wouldn’t say “BOO!” if we were talking about, say, malaria…so how does the fact that this is about gun violence change anything?

Politicians Can’t Pass Actual Laws To Stop Gun Violence, So They Tweet Prayerfully: It doesn’t get much more pathetic than this, does it? How about y’all grow a pair and stand up to the Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © and their ilk?

Mass shootings are not about mental illness: They’re about angry, disaffected loners acting out their delusions and taking innocent people out with them. They should be about finding safe, effective ways to get guns out of the hands of those with demonstrably or potentially violent behavioral tendencies.

Nobody’s Going to Take Your Guns Away: Dear Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes ©, stop acting like ninnies afraid that someone’s going to take your G.I. Joe doll from you. It’s not about taking your guns (though I wish there was a way that could be done). It’s about making America safer- yes, even for monsters like yourself.

Armed vet destroys gun nuts’ argument on mass shooters by explaining why he didn’t attack Oregon killer: There are many things that can happen when armed bystanders decide to enter the fray. Few of those potential results are good.

Republicans Have No Answer for Roseburg: How can they when the GOP is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Rifle Association?

Gun nuts, the ultimate thought police: Shutting down an open debate after yet another mass shooting: It’s always “TOO SOON!!”…and other specious, self-serving reasons why we shouldn’t be talking about common sense gun control.

Obama On Oregon Shooting: ‘We’ve Become Numb To This’: Until we demand change, nothing will change.

Conservatives Are Blaming “Gun-Free Zones” for Roseburg: If you believe the only answer to mass murder is “MOR GUNZ!!!”, you’re a sociopath.

Oregon sheriff slammed for letter attacking Joe Biden over ‘irresponsible’ gun control: So, Sheriff; how’s that whole “irresponsible gun control” thing working out for you now that you’ve had your very own mass murder?

Mass shootings aren’t natural disasters: The twisted logic that govern American gun-control: No, mass shootings are man-made disasters made possible by Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © and politicians owned lock, stock, and barrel by the gun lobby.

GOP Candidates Express Sorrow for Umpqua College Massacre but All Seek Looser Gun Laws: The truth is that Republicans care far less about saving lives than they do about serving their masters in the gun lobby and getting re-elected.

Guns Kill An Average Of 36 People Every Day, And The Nation Doesn’t Even Blink: Once we accepted the mass murder of children at Sandy Hook, it seemed we were condemned to an endless loop of senseless bloodshed.

Another Mass Shooting In America. What The Hell Are We Supposed To Say? How about, “We’re made as Hell and we’re not going to take it anymore!!”…and then actually demanding that our elected representatives do more than just tweet prayerful condolences?

‘We’re tired of sending condolences’: Bernie Sanders backs Obama’s push for stronger gun laws: Thoughts and prayers are no longer enough…as if they ever were. It’s time to DO something.

Authorities: Weapons Recovered In Oregon Shooting Purchased Legally: Thirteen Weapons…all obtained legally. WTF is wrong with this country this isn’t cause for alarm?
