Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, I believed that people were basically good and did the right things at the right time for the right reasons. Now that I’m a wizened veteran of this thing called life, I’ve come to understand that while most people really are basically good, a disturbingly high proportion of the population are miserable meat sacks in it only for their self-aggrandizement and riches. Not that these sorry examples of humanity aren’t useful for their entertainment value, of course, but lost within the mirth is the truth that these folks can be sociopaths…if not borderline psycopaths.
Just when I begin to think we couldn’t possibly aspire to lower depths of hyper-religious judgmental bigotry, along comes a Kim Davis or “Taliban Dan.” When you consider that states like South Dakota are no longer even requiring their young ‘uns to learn about things like the Constitution, it becomes easier to understand who and why ignorance is rapidly becoming the coin of the realm. It’s a “Dumber and Dumber” world, and those whose scabbed knuckles never heal seem to be on the verge of a hostile, it not particularly intelligent takeover.
