Wanna be a Prophet? It's easier than you might think.

Chris McCann, head of the eBible fellowship, warned that the planet would be destroyed “with fire” on 7 October. This did not happen…. “Since it is now 8 October it is now obvious that we were incorrect regarding the world’s ending on the 7th,” McCann said. We’ll give him this much: he’s a keen observer of the facts around him. Despite his inaccurate deciphering of biblical prophecy, McCann does remind us that he’d only said that there was a “strong likelihood” that we’d be toast on October 7: “Well, a strong likelihood means that something was pretty well set to happen (in this case according to the biblical evidence),” he said. “Yet there is a possibility it may not happen…. So it was surprising that it did not occur. But the comforting thing is that God’s will is always perfect…. I also know that God knows exactly when that end will come,” he said. “So we’ll keep studying the Bible to see what we can learn.”

You may have noticed that the world didn’t spontaneously combust and burn to a cinder last week as predicted by some hyper-religious undermedicated loon with access to da Interwebz. Imagine my relief when last Wednesday came and went and I didn’t spontaneously combust into a pile of useless ash.

Of course, the “prophet” is now acting as if he was hedging his bet- “there is a possibility it may not happen”- but the truth is that people like McCann are playing a game they know they can’t lose. If the world doesn’t end as predicted, they can claim as McCann did that only God “knows exactly when that end will come[.]”

If someone is claiming they know when the world will end, you can rest assured that one of two things are in play:

  1. They’re running yet another religiously-themed schemed whose ultimate goal is to separate the gullible true believers from their Earthly wealth and belongings, or

  2. They’re off their meds and looking for attention.

Either way, this latest prediction that the world was about to end is just another in a very long tradition of religious crooks trying to scam followers into ridding themselves of the burden of Earthly wealth…preferably by transferring said wealth to the scammer in question.

It’s what Jesus would do, don’tchaknow??
