Compassion and a functional give-a-damn should be a prerequisite for being President

“But, Dr. Ben Carson, would you go [to Roseburg, Oregon]?” Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade wondered. “If the people of the community say don’t go, would you still go if you were president on Friday?”…. “Probably not,” Carson replied. “I mean, I would probably have so many things on my agenda that I would go to the next one.”

It seems we’ve reached the point where Republicans are not only numb to the continuing carnage created by gun violence, they’re not even making a pretense of caring. Let’s face it; if meeting with the families of massacre victims is an inconvenience you can’t squeeze into your schedule because you “have so many things” on your agenda, you’re an asshole and a sociopath. If you think shutting out the families of victims of a recent massacre and maybe waiting until the NEXT massacre to feign concern and sympathy is anything resembling appropriate and compassionate, you’re human in name only. I’m not certain I possess the vocabulary sufficient to the tasking of describing your utter lack of humanity and compassion.

I can only speak for myself (though I can’t imagine I’m the only one feeling this way), but speaking about a shooting on a community college campus in which nine innocents were killed as if it was just another day at the office is about as callous and dismissive as it gets. For Ben Carson, like most Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes &copoy;, if it doesn’t involve someone you know and love, it may as well not have happened. Is it just another inconvenience competing with other inconveniences to get onto his clearly jam-packed daily calendar? Is it just one more pain-in-the-ass thing on his “to-do” list? Yeah, I know; you have to act like you care…that’s tougher for some of us, eh?

Dr. Carson, I’m so sorry to hear that your schedule is so full, that you’re so important you can’t be bothered with someone as routine and mundane as (yawn….) showing compassion to the families impacted by yet another mass murder. It’s too bad that displaying a modicum of compassion and simple human decency is such an onerous burden for you. That said, if you can’t be bothered to be open to one of the most basic responsibility of a President- being the Mourner-in-Chief when necessary, you have no business even entertaining the (hopefully increasingly slim) possibility of ascending to the highest office in the land. Give us a call when you have a heart.

…and the horse you rode in on.
