Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) accused news outlets of covering up what he described as violent tendencies among Democrats…. “Here’s the simple and undeniable fact. The overwhelming majority of violent criminals are Democrats,” Cruz told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. “The media doesn’t report that.”…. Cruz did not cite any data to back up his accusation…. Hewitt failed to mention that Cruz has embraced the support of Kevin Swanson, who has called for homosexuality to be punished by death in the US…. “This whole episode has really exposed the ugly underbelly of the media,” Cruz said in response. “Every time you have some sort of violent crime or mass killing, you can almost see the media salivating — hoping desperately that the murderer happens to be a Republican, so that they can use it to try and paint their political enemies.”…. Cruz had previously accused the man behind the fatal shooting, Robert Louis Dear, as a “transgendered leftist activist.” However, Dear’s ex-wife has said that he is a religious conservative.
When you have nothing positive to offer, when the only hope of success you can see lies in spreading hatred, fear, and religious discrimination…well, you must be Ted Cruz. Evidently having reached 14 on a “desperation meter” that only goes from 1-10, Cruz seems to have adopted the mien of someone barely in control of his faculties. His tactic of throwing unsubstantiated assertions and accusations against the wall in the hope something- ANYTHING- will stick is indicative increasingly unhinged and addicted to faux outrage. It’s also unbecoming of a person seeking to prove he’s qualified to sit behind the big desk in the Oval Office.
His primary strategy- channeling the late Sen. Joseph McCarthy- is proving to be spectacularly unappetizing. Outside of appealing to “Kill-‘em-and-grill-‘em” Christians who believe that being awash in the love of Jesus Christ means advocating for the execution of homosexuals, abortion providers, Liberals, and Packers fans, Cruz’ campaign seems nothing if not morally adrift. His latest four-Pinnochio foray into the depths of ridiculousness- claiming “[t]he overwhelming majority of violent criminals are Democrats”- while providing no evidence to back it up- has revealed that Cruz cares about one thing and one thing only- winning. He’s ready and willing to sell his soul, mortgage his integrity, or do and/or say anything he deems necessary and appropriate to achieve his goal.
Stay classy, eh?
If nothing else, Cruz’ latest moral meltdown demonstrates his lack of fitness to hold office- ANY office. Honestly, the Second Coming of Joseph McCarthy shouldn’t be allowed to manage a Dairy Queen…much less have acess to the nuclear launch codes. I have no way of accurately gauging Cruz’ sincerity (though I suspect it’s minimal at best), but America deserves a President who lives in the reality-based world, not a fact-free fantasyland steeped in hatred, bigotry, and homophobia. It’s time Cruz woke up, smelled the cat litter, and folded his tent; this farce has continued long enough.
