When we accepted the murder of children as the price of freedom, we lost all claim to being a moral society

It’s been three years since Sandy Hook, and 554 American children have been killed by guns since then. That works out to an average of one child sacrificed every other day on the altar of the Holy Second Amendment. It’s probably worth it, however, since as you have no doubt noticed, the nation has not become a Nazi dictatorship. (If we want one of those, we’ll vote one in.) But for the guarantee that armed patriots could stave off tyranny, 554 children seems a small price to pay. Really small, especially when you notice the size of the coffins.

It was three years ago yesterday that Adam Lanza killed his mother before going to Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, where he murdered 20 children and six adults. A reasonable, optimistic person could be forgiven for assuming that such a horrific massacre of children would spur concerted action leading to the sort of change that would ensure nothing of the sort ever happens again.

One would also have to be forgiven for being wrong. WAY wrong. The only thing sparked by Newtown is the recognition that not even the mass murder of children is enough to convince Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © that common sense gun control might be a good thing to consider. Once Americans tacitly accepted the killing of children as the price of gun rights in a free society, it became clear that virtually nothing would change…and, in fact, virtually nothing has.

If you need to salve your conscience, you might want to consider giving “Christian carry” pins to your gun-loving friends. Because nothing says “I love Jesus…and guns!” better than a cloisonne pin with a Bible verse on it, eh?

As we all know, Jesus Christ was a big proponent of armed self defense, what with that beautiful line from Luke 6:29, “If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them, draw your Desert Eagle, and give them two shots to the center of mass and a finishing shot in the head.” It’s a loose translation.

Williams’s Guns-N-Jesus business got started with an ad on Facebook offering a 5% discount on handguns to anyone who said they were Christian, because he believes Christians are an increasingly marginalized minority. Apparently he just took their word for it, so it’s possible some lying atheists or Muslims may have cheated him. From that, it was only a natural step to start marketing a variety of pins citing some sanguinary verses of the Bible[.]

If we were actually a moral society that operated on Christian principles (like valuing the sanctity of life, f’rinstance), we’d be falling over ourselves trying to figure out how to prevent similar massacres from happening on a regular basis. Instead, we continue meekly acquiescing to a minority of loud, intolerant, and inflexible Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © who willfully refuse to brook ANYTHING they construe as potentially adversely impacting their self-ascribed gun rights even one iota. Nothing, not even the mass murder of children, is to their way of thinking considered sufficient cause to permit even the discussion of common sense gun control. The merest hint of consideration of common sense gun control must be quashed immediately and decisively in order to prevent Liberal gun grabbers from imposing their freedom-hating will on American patriots.

And so the slaughter continues unabated.

There is, of course, nothing even remotely Christian about the unhealthy relationship of Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © to their guns. That the teachings of Jesus Christ have been co-opted by those who value gun rights over any and all other considerations, including human life, is bad enough. That Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © claim the imprimatur of the Almighty only serves to display the depths of their moral bankruptcy and their complete lack of concern for anything beyond their own narrow self-interest.

I keep hoping for change, that Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © will come to realize their inhumanity only serves to pave the way for more senseless massacres. Once they decided the murder of children was a price to be paid to protect gun rights (and supporters of common sense gun control acquiesced), It became clear what their blueprint for the future consisted of.

Until Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes © are forced to bury their own after a mass shooting, nothing will change. This is what happens when a motivated class of self-interested zealots care for their guns more than life itself.
