Words have meaning and power, and in the hands of demagogues can do lasting damage

The goal was to make us afraid to come to work, to make us quit, to make us close the clinic. That’s terrorism. That’s how terrorism works.

One must tread very carefully when attempting to affix blame in the wake of something as horrific as Robert Lewis Dear’s assault on a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs. That said, one can also not afford to ignore what should be blindingly obvious to any rational, honest observer. No, the American Taliban didn’t pull the trigger- Dear’s responsible for that- but they did help to create a hateful, emotionally-charged atmosphere which can (and in this case, undoubtedly did) make it easier for someone with profound mental health issues to be pushed over the edge.

What the Rabid Religious Right refuses to acknowledge is that words have meaning and power. Otherwise, why would they expend so much time and righteous energy in attempting to win sheeple over to their side? No, they didn’t tell Dear to shoot up a Planned Parenthood Clinic in Colorado Springs…but they’ve created an emotionally-charged atmosphere heavy on piety, hyper-religiosity, and righteous outrage. They did everything but load the weapon and hand it to Dear. Despite their furious attempts to distance themselves from Dear’s murderous actions, they can’t credibly claim to bear no responsibility whatsoever. To give the gentle reader an idea of what sort of quasi-terroristic moral support the Rabid Religious Right gives to crazed zealots like Dear, I offer the following.

Caution: you may feel the need to shower when you’re done.

Planned Parenthood killer believed Christ’s forgiveness meant he could get away with anything: What sort of mental and moral midget believes Divine forgiveness to be a blank check that covers any and all transgressions, no matter how vile, unChristian, and immoral?

Bombs, Shootings, Arson, Death Threats: Writer Details What It’s Like to Work at Women’s Health Clinic: If you don’t believe that this is the textbook definition of terrorism, you’re not paying attention.

Republicans deserve some blame for the Colorado shooting: When you throw gasoline on a fire, you can’t claim surprise when the conflagration erupts.

Good gal with a gun: Rick Santorum suggests armed nurses could have prevented Planned Parenthood shooting: Why not just arm everyone, from priests to bus drivers to bank tellers to day care workers? Because, as any good, God-fearing, patriotic Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foe © will tell you, the only way to create a polite society is by ensuring we’re all scared of one another.

Colorado GOP lawmaker: Planned Parenthood is the ‘real culprit’ in the shooting: When you consider that less than 5% of the services PP provides to women are abortion-related, it doesn’t take a genius to see that this is really about a political party that hates women and considers them the property of men.

How the Extreme Christian Right Incited the Assault on the Planned Parenthood Clinic in Colorado: The didn’t pull the trigger, but they did everything short of handing Dear the gun.

Ted Cruz: ‘There is no doubt’ Planned Parenthood was ‘selling baby parts’: ‘There is no doubt’ but that Cruz is a shameless liar and provocateur with no shame or integrity.

Christian Conservatives Scramble to Deny Stirring Up Violence with Their Incendiary Speech: You can’t scream loud and long about the need to burn the house down…and then claim to be shocked when someone shows up with a can of gasoline and a box of matches.

Fischer: Planned Parenthood Shooter May Have Been ‘Tanked Up On Pot’: Some things are so mind-numbingly stupid they provide their own commentary.

Fox News: Too Bad No One At Planned Parenthood Was Armed, Except For All Those Cops: Yeah, if only those nurses (you know, the ones whose mission in life is SAVING lives) had been armed.

‘Enough is enough’: Democrats call on Paul Ryan to halt politicized Planned Parenthood inquiry: Politicians on the Far Right, while publicly saying all the right things, are very likely quite happy to see an organization they despise come under attack.

Colo. shooting suspect has a long trail of allegations of violence against women: But he LOVED him some Jesus….

For Robert Dear, Religion and Rage Before Planned Parenthood Attack: Never mind the (what should be) blindingly obvious fact that “religion” and “rage” have no business appearing in the same sentence. If you’re addicted to rage, you have NO idea about what your religion truly stands for.

Christian Group’s Survey Finds That Christians Have the Most Abortions in U.S.: Move along, people…no hypocrisy here….

Robert Dear vandalized Planned Parenthood clinic decades ago in South Carolina: ex-wife: Once a mentally unbalanced hyper-religious zealot….

Women’s Health Advocates Slam Right-Wingers for Planned Parenthood Smears: Blaming the victims of the attack is a disturbingly low-class and callous thing to do. Sadly, it’s what the American Taliban is known for.

White killers go to Burger King: Race, Planned Parenthood and our diseased white privilege: Remember, White Christian males by definition can’t be terrorists. They’re “disturbed individuals with anger management problems.”

Working at Planned Parenthood: ‘Every Day, Someone Threatened to Kill Me’: If this isn’t the textbook definition of terrorism, I don’t know what would be.

The right’s anti-choice death count: They can’t pretend to think abortion is murder without encouraging terrorism: One form of murder is the worst form of blasphemous disrespect for God imaginable. The other is merely being the instrument of God’s Will. Guess which is which??

5 disgraceful GOP responses to the Planned Parenthood shootings: I suspect the challenge was in narrowing the list down to five responses.

Ted Cruz is a professional liar: The Planned Parenthood shooting was the work of a “transgendered leftist activist”: That Cruz is considered a viable candidate for the highest office in the land is more than anything an indictment of his supporters. Dishonesty, bigotry, and a complete absence of integrity should be a stumbling block for voters; that it’s not for so many says much about those who would vote for him. None of it is positive.

Planned Parenthood Shooter Had A History Of Violence Against Women: I know; quelle surprise, non?

Planned Parenthood shooting demonstrates the severity of domestic rightwing terror: The biggest terrorist threat we face isn’t from wild-eyed, foreign Islamofascists. It’s from Conservative White Christian males.

Right-Wing Media Try to Distract From Abortion Clinic Shooting: Move along, people; nothing to see here….

Hey, media: This man is not a ‘gunman.’ He’s a terrorist: Words matter…and that fact doesn’t change when a Conservative White Christian male is responsible for terrorism.

The Toll of Violent Anti-Abortion Speech: Colorado Springs is not the first. Sadly, it’s unlikely to be the last. When you’re willing to kill for an idea, you’re about as morally bankrupt as it gets.

Our culture and laws enabled Colorado’s Planned Parenthood shooter — whatever his motive: Because, as ANY good, God-fearing, Conservative White Christian patriot will tell you, the 2nd Amendment is sacrosanct, immutable, and inviolable- more precious than life itself.

Now we have the motive: All evidence suggests Planned Parenthood shooting was act of domestic terror: The fact that the American Taliban is furiously attempting to distance itself from any sort of responsibility should be enough to demonstrate that.
