Are these Right-wing nutjobs...or performance artists?

Savage, who has frequently railed against the man he calls “Lenin’s pope,” said that the Catholic Church — along with Sanders and Hillary Clinton — is bringing a communist revolution to America. He then put his own spin on Martin Niemöller’s Holocaust-era poem, “First they came for the socialists…”: “First they came for the rich, but you were not rich and you did not stand up for the rich; then they came for the middle class, but you didn’t stand up for the middle class because you were not even of the middle class; and then when they started to come up for the poor there was no one else to stand up for you because everyone else was taken out.”

Time was when people opened their mouths and spewed hatred, intolerance, and generalized incoherence combined with rancid personal attacks, they were institutionalized and forcibly medicated for their protection. That was then. Today, it seems to qualify one to sit behind a microphone and/or a camera and broadcast all manner of hate speech to the Right-wing echo chamber.

I generally don’t lose a lot of sleep over those who make a living off hatred and bigotry. I figure that, karma being what it is, those who travel that path will eventually get what they have coming to them. Those who traffic in hatred, bigotry, and the generalized spreading of negative energy can be- and very often are- a comedy gold mine. It’s difficult to believe some of the crap that spews forth from the pie holes of those who in generations past probably would have been put on regular doses of Thorazine and wrapped in a straight jacket.

I’ve come to especially appreciate the reaction of the Right-wing hate media to Bernie Sanders, whom- depending on who you’re unfortunate enough to be listening to- is the anti-Christ, a virulent hater of capitalism, or the bringer of the “Final Plague”…whatever in the Hell that might mean. One of my favorite sites, Right Wing Watch, has gleaned some of the best of the worst reactions to Sen. Sanders…and true to form, these RWNJs are as humorous and entertaining as they are in serious need of psychotriopic medication. Feast your eyes on the rich, creamy goodness….

It can be truly entertaining watching and/or listening to some of these folks expound at some considerable length about how Sen. Sanders will destroy America, Christendom, capitalism, and/or American Exceptionalism. You’d think they’d be grateful for the possibility of a President Bernie Sanders; they’d have at least four years, and possibly eight, of guaranteed material to mine. The potential for righteous meltdowns would be EPIC…and no doubt highly entertaining.

Perhaps what they really fear is what Sen. Sanders calls “a win-win”: If he’s elected, Bill O’Reilly will leave the country. With any luck, he’ll take some of the denizens of the Right-wing echo chamber with him.

Things have become so overheated that the silliness is bleeding over into the GOP primary campaign, where Sen. Ted Cruz (R-MordorTX) is accusing front-runner Donald Trump of advocating for “Bernie Sanders-style socialized medicine.”

Right…because Sen. Cruz’ solution (“Don’t get sick”) is by far the more compassionate, humane, and American choice.

In a sense, all the Sturm und Drang could be interpreted as a respectful nod to Sen. Sanders’ viability as a candidate…and therefore a legitimate threat. The Right-wing echo chamber has never renowned for reasoned, rational, and/or dispassionate discussion of actual issues. They undoubtedly understand at some level, deep in the recesses of their lizard brains, that they have no hope of defeating Sen. Sanders on the issues. The only real avenue left to them is what they excel at: fear-mongering, disinformation, character assassination, and vile, unfounded propaganda.

Not that their tactics are proving particularly effective: the Sanders campaign has been raking in beaucoup bucks…and from individual donors, NOT corporations or Wall Street firms.

Looks like the Anti-Christ is doing all right for himself, eh?
