if you support @berniesanders, please follow the senator's lead and be respectful when people disagree with you.

I’ve endorsed Bernie Sanders, and while I still believe him to be the right choice, I can’t say with certainty that I believe he’ll win the Democratic nomination. It’s entirely possible that Sec. Clinton will ultimately prevail…and while that prospect doesn’t fill me with glee, it sets up a stark choice for all who support Sen. Sanders. If Sec. Clinton wins the Democratic nomination, do we fold up our tents and head home to sulk…or do we unify behind the party’s representative in an effort to keep Republicans out of the White House?
As if the answer to that question isn’t already self-evident….
From my perspective, the prospect of a Republican winning the Presidency in November is a far more distasteful prospect than Sen. Sanders losing the nomination. Yes, there are things that divide the two Democratic contenders…and those differences aren’t insignificant in the struggle for the heart and soul of the Democratic Party. I fervently hope that Sen. Sanders will prevail; I believe that pragmatism and settling for incremental change is to sell America short. I don’t believe Sec. Clinton to be a bad choice or a poor candidate (there’s much I admire about her)…but neither do I believe her to be the right choice. That said, if my candidate doesn’t win, I’m not about to sit out the election or- far worse- vote for the Republican nominee.
Both sides owe it to our shared love for and vision of America to get behind whoever the eventual nominee is. Or we can get used to living in the new Republican century and await the coming of our new theocracy.
First they came for the Liberals….
Regardless of whoever prevails on the Democratic side, we would do America a huge disservice by not working to ensure the White House remains in Democratic hands. Think about it…is there a more frightening prospect than that of President Donald Trump, or President Ted Cruz, or even President Marco Rubio? Consider that for a moment, and then please resolve to respect our differences and get behind whoever the Democratic nominee is. I will be, if for no other reason than I fear for the future of this country should a Republican take the oath of office next January.
