I don’t care that people are uncomfortable, that’s their problem. How someone feels really doesn’t matter when it comes to constitutional principles. As a man who is somewhat disgusted by homosexual behavior, I don’t think I should have to see two men kissing in public, and I will never stop them from doing so, that is their right to be gay, that is their right to kiss in public and grope in public…. People who are anti-gay think people who exercise their right to love whomever they want are confrontational … People [in this country] are not talking to each other, they’re focused on an object, whether it be a kiss between men or a holstered handgun.
The fact that Proudly Closed-Minded Gun Control Foes © don’t give a damn about anything beyond their precious gun rights isn’t exactly breaking news. When it comes to the fine, upstanding, Constitution-loving ‘mericans at Open Carry Texas, they’ll leave no doubt whatsoever that their rights trump any puny, pitiful, and decidedly un-American claim you might have to “safety.”
That a Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foe © could think it appropriate to compare gun rights to the right to engage in a loving, committed, long-term, legally-recognized marriage is evidence of just how sick and self-righteous some of these folks can be.
Yessiree, few ‘Mericans do freedom quite like Open Carry Texas. And few can find a more offensive way to justify extending a metaphorical middle finger to those with the temerity to think differently than C.J. Grisham, the leader of Open Carry Texas and a human being only if you’re employing the very broadest definition of the term.
The idea that the 2nd Amendment guarantees any American the right to carry any sort of firearm anywhere they choose for any reason at all is offensive to many Americans, many gun owners among them. Responsible gun owners understand that “responsibility” means having an obligation to those around you to not place them in undue peril. “Responsibility” is about not placing your “rights” above any and all other considerations. Then again, no reasonable person would accuse Grisham or anyone else associated with Open Carry Texas of being anything even faintly redolent of “responsible.”
Open Carry Texas said on Facebook and Twitter that it wanted to address the “stigma associated with firearms in public”…which, if one thinks about it for any length time, is laughable. The only “stigma,” if it can accurately be called that, is associated with being an asshole/sociopath who feels no need to rights the rights and concerns of anyone. When you believe your “gun rights” to the foundation on which America is built, being perceived as an asshole/sociopath by those you belive to “hate freedom” probably seems a small price to pay
It’s not about “stigma,” it’s about a group of attention-deprived, over-compensating angry males who believe their 2nd Amendment rights trump any and all other concerns- even public health and safety. There’s absolutely no reason why any decent, well-adjusted person would think it appropriate to wade into the crowds at Austin’s South By Southwest Festival (SXSW) packing a pistol on their hip. (Even worse, last year they carried rifles.)
That The Black Guy in the White House © was in Austin to give the keynote speech at SXSW only adds to the air of malevolence and generalized assholery surrounding Open Carry Texas.
(On an interesting side note, Jessica Jin, the rally organizer for Cocks Not Glocks, met C.J. Grisham and offered him a dildo. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall….)
No matter what lame, self-interested, testosterone-fueled “argument” Grisham may present, there’s no reasonable or compelling argument for his gun rights to be regarded as superior to public health and safety. The fact that Grisham so clearly doesn’t care about anything or anyone else only serves to demonstrate how morally bereft he is- pretty typical for a sociopathic personality and the sort of thing Open Carry Texas is renowned for.
Never mind that any Proudly Closed-Minded Gun Control Foe © who’d seriously attempt to draw a parallel between homosexuality and gun rights likely has bigger problems than he could possibly imagine….
