North Carolina: A compassionate Conservative-free zone

While many people are cheering Bruce Springsteen’s decision to cancel a North Carolina concert in light of the state’s new anti-LGBT legislation, Rep. Mark Walker (R-N.C.) is not one of them. In fact, the congressman told The Hollywood Reporter that he believes the rock star is being a bully…. “Bruce is known to be on the radical left,” Walker told the publication. “He’s got every right to be so, but I consider this a bully tactic. It’s like when a kid gets upset and says he’s going to take his ball and go home.”…. Springsteen recently canceled his April 10 show at the Greensboro Coliseum, writing in a press release featured on his website, “Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry — which is happening as I write — is one of them.”

Don’tcha just love it when haters and bigots feign being all manner of butthurt when someone decides to stand up to them? Bullies don’t do well when they encounter resistance, and it looks as if Rep. Walker is just another prototypical Republican bully who believes his narrow morality deserves to be given the force of law- and if you push back, then you’re just one of the Liberal bullies who persecutes good Christians.

Instead of getting upset with Springsteen for standing for his principles, perhaps Rep. Walker would be well-advised to examine his own. He might ask himself why he feels that passing a law which discriminates against transgender individuals is an appropriate use of the legislative process. He might also ask himself why Republicans feel the need to “protect the sanctity” of public restrooms, especially when such no problem currently exists…except in the minds of Conservative culture warriors. He might also inquire as to why North Carolina Republicans are all fired up about protecting their precious snowflakes from the nonexistent problem of perverts in public restrooms even as they ignore the very real and far more significant danger posed by pedophile priests in Catholic Churches.

Rep. Walker can complain all he wants about Springsteen standing up for equality, but the truth is that at least The Boss is standing for something. The only thing Rep. Walker seems willing and/or able to stand for is hypocrisy, hatred, and homophobia.

Mama must be SO proud….
