The latest reason to vote Republican: Genital checks in public restrooms

Never worry about what I’m doing. Only worry about why you’re worried about what I’m doing.

Why is it that people with the most narrow of minds seem to have the widest of mouths?

I can’t vouch for the veracity of the graphic, but it does illustrate what I believe to be a very basic and salient truth about the recent spate of bills dictating which restrooms transgender individuals may use. Why is it that the American Taliban feels they possess the right to insert themselves into such a private decision? Is it that those who demand “small government” have no problem with adding another layer of bureaucracy if it supports their moral/ideological/theological agenda of hatred and discrimination? Does the desire to control the private behavior of those who lifestyle and/or sexuality they abhor take precedence over their concerns about getting government off the backs of the people?

As if the answers to those questions haven’t long been self-evident. (Remember, it’s only tyranny and/or oppression when they do it to us. When we do it to them, we’re merely enforcing God’s will.)

The petty and exceedingly narrow moral/ideological/theological considerations of the Far Right are one thing, but I can’t help wondering how they propose to enforce their dictates concerning which restrooms transgender individuals may legally frequent? Do you hire additional law enforcement personnel and deputize them as the state’s “potty patrol?” Do you deputize good, God-fearing Conservative Christians who volunteer to stand vigil over public restrooms and conduct genital inspections before granting entry? Violating personal privacy and dignity in the service of a hateful, bigoted agenda is no crime when you’re protecting innocent the safety and virtue of innocent women and children, amiright??

Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you were an expert on my life and how I should live it. Please continue while I take notes.

Is this really, truly what we believe the proper role of government to be? Are we to believe that scarce tax dollars should be spent mollifying the fears and prejudices of a hateful minority?

The problem is that there are far too many Right-wing busybodies far too concerned with what other people might be doing. Of course, it’s much easier to invent a problem and then “fix” it as opposed to turning that focus inward and trying to understand why you’re so concerned with the bathroom habits of people whose existence has no impact on your own?

I can only speak for myself, but I can’t help but thinking that anyone who’s seriously concerned with whether someone is using the proper restroom is leading a pretty pathetic existence and in SERIOUS need of getting a life of their own. How about minding your own business and getting your affairs in order before you devote yourself to determining how others should live?
