“Coach” Dave Daubenmire defended Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore in a column…praising the anti-LGBT justice for standing up to the “judicial tyranny” that is “breaking out all across America” as “sexual deviants” have created a “sodomy-focused army” to “ram-rod sexual anarchy down the throats of mainstream America.”
I find it fascinating that when it comes to broadcasting and belaboring their principled, unshakable opposition to LGBT rights, so many righteous, godly Christians resort to some truly unfortunate sexual imagery. It’s almost as if they lack the self-awareness to recognize the imagery created by saying that evil, godless, “sodomy-focused” Liberals are “forcing [insert name of sinful sexual act/proclivity/orientation here] down our throats.” Few are more prone to this sort of silliness than “Coach” Dave Daubemire, champion of a particularly muscular, patriarchal theology based on…well, no one really seems sure where he’s getting his delusions theological marching orders. It seems Daubenmire’s to Christianity what Dennis Miller is to comedy. I mean, what part of a “sodomy-focused army” looking to “ram-rod sexual anarchy down the throats of mainstream America” isn’t…well, unintentionally humorous?
While I may vehemently disagree with virtually everything Daubenmire says, thinks, and stands for, I certainly respect his right to hold whatever thoroughly deluded, self-righteous beliefs may be necessary to get him through the night. It would be a whole lot easier to not immediately default to dissolving into a laughing fit if he could find a less…um, graphic way to express himself, knowhutimean? Or is he really just trying to stuff his narrow, intolerant religiosity down my throat?
Inquiring minds REALLY want to know.
