Another Great Moment in "Why Republicans shouldn't be allowed to legislate"

A Louisiana lawmaker apparently keen on wasting people’s time and skeeving everyone out killed two birds with one stone during a Wednesday state House session by suggesting an age and weight limit for strippers. While discussing a bill that would raise the minimum age of exotic dancers from 18 to 21, Rep. Kenny Havard (R) briefly proposed an amendment to cap dancers at 28 years old and 160 pounds. Not all of Havard’s statehouse colleagues were amused. Rep. Julie Stokes (R) said she had “never been more repulsed to be part of the House of Representatives.”…. “I can’t even believe the behavior. I hear derogatory comments about women, I see women get treated differently than men,” Stokes said, calling Havard’s proposal “utterly disrespectful and disgusting.”

In case anyone may have seen their way clear to questioning the supposition that Conservative males should never be allowed anywhere near a legislative body, behold Rep. Kenny Havard. A fine example of Republican moral rectitude (and the requisite frat boy mentality), Havard just squandered his 15 minutes of fame by becoming a punch line…and a poster boy for Republican ineptitude.

I’m not certain if Rep. Havard proposed his amendment seriously (he claims it was in jest)…but the blowback and ridicule was as deadly serious as it was well and richly deserved.

Perhaps every bit as ridiculous was another Republican legislator’s contention that the bill itself was an attempt to reduce the likelihood that women trapped in human trafficking would be forced to work in the sex trade. As one advocate pointed out, “[I]t’s a kind of moralizing bill that doesn’t really do anything to address coercive involvement in the sex trade or minors’ involvement in the sex trade.”

It’s almost as if the good, God-fearing, America-defending, missionary-position-loving, patriotic Conservative culture warriors have stopped even pretending to camouflage their agenda, knowhutimean??
