"Bernie or bust?" Do you actually care about America...or are you really that blind?

With the Democratic primaries concluding in a few weeks, battle lines continue to harden between supporters of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders with some Sanders’ fans saying they might welcome businessman Donald Trump as the president. In interviews with the New York Times, members of the “Bernie-or-bust” movement say they are holding out hope that something will derail Clinton’s drive for the nomination because they want change — even if it’s a “Nazi-type change.”

Before supporters of Bernie Sanders collectively summon all manner of evil to rain down upon me from the portals of Hell, understand one thing: I’m one of you. I support Sen. Sanders, and I’m still holding out hope that he might still defy the odds and win the Democratic nomination. He’s an infinitely better candidate than either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton…but I also understand that sometimes the best candidate doesn’t win.

That’s politics. It sucks, but that reality can be and very often is unpleasant. At some point the question becomes what to do next. How can you re-channel your energy and emotion and move forward? What’s the best thing for America? (Hint: It’s not voting for Donald Trump.)

Guess what, Cupcake? Sometimes it really IS about the Greater Good and not just your narrow self-interest. Sometimes we have to recognize and acknowledge the best remaining choice and run with it. That’s how American democracy works- unless you’re one of the “Bernie or bust” crowd and believe that not getting your way means (figuratively) holding your breath until you turn blue…or engaging in some other similarly meaningless and futile gesture.

From where I sit, I’d say it’s time for all y ‘all to grow up- wake up and smell the cat litter, willya?

The idea that you won’t vote for Hillary Clinton if she’s the Democratic nominee is ad childish and immature as it is dangerous. The ignorance of reality displayed by the people interviewed for the Times article is stunning. The idea that anyone could want “change” so badly that they’d be willing to accept ANYTHING different, even “Nazi-type change” is beyond frightening. Do they know nothing about what “Nazi-type change” means in a democracy?

Some of the “Bernie or bust” crowd display an astonishing level of ignorance when it comes to who Donald Trump is and what he stands for. Judging the Republican nominee based on his performance on “The Apprentice,” where everything is centered around making The Donald look good, is ludicrous. It completely ignores his considerable track record of racism, sexism, misogyny, and disreputable and unethical business practices- but no worries, right? Vote for Donald Trump, because he represents change!! If you believe that anything different, even “Nazi-type change” is better than voting for Hillary Clinton, might I suggest you stay at home on Election Day and burn your voter’s registration card? If you’re so committed to “Bernie or bust” that you’d err on the side of “bust,” I’d submit that you have no business voting.

That may seem a harsh, even judgmental criticism…but keep in mind that I support Bernie Sanders. I voted for him in the Oregon Primary, but I also have both feel firmly grounded in reality. Job One for any rational American should be ensuring that Donald Trump isn’t the one putting his left hand on the Bible and raising his right hand on 1.20.17. If that means voting for Hillary Clinton as the best viable alternative to Trump, then that’s what needs to be done. It may not be a pleasant prospect, but when you consider the alternative….

It’s time to do what’s best for America, don’tchathink??
