A Furious Sam Bee Condemns Prayer Directives: ‘Talking to Nobody’ Doesn’t Stop Gun Violence https://t.co/ePnaqdH6rI pic.twitter.com/NYDSZ0ZyIT

The usually comedic Samantha Bee of Full Frontal devoted the opening block of her show [to the] tragedy in Orlando that left 49 people dead and scores more injured. Bee however suspended her jokes for an impassioned plea to law makers to, “fix our fucking problems,” in the wake of another mass shooting. The subject of most of Bee’s ire was Florida’s governor Rick Scott, who has been artfully dodging any tough questions regarding potential policy changes that could help prevent attacks like these from occurring again. When repeatedly cornered on the cable news shows about the role of politicians in the face of gun violence, Governor Scott has simply urged Americans to pray — a sentiment that infuriated the late night talk show host…. “What the fuck are you even talking about?” she said after a clip of Scott played. “Stop thinking and do something to improve our society!” she said, directing her anger towards the Governor whose home state just saw the worst terror attack on US soil since 9/11….”Sit[ting] quietly in a room with your eyes closed, talking to nobody,” isn’t a reasonable solution towards fixing our mass shootings, noted Bee[.]
There are few things I find more thoroughly infuriating than imprecations that we need to pray to stop gun violence. The predilection for advocating for “thoughts and prayers” is now little more than a sardonic hashtag apropos of a collective unwillingness to actually do anything constructive. We all hate the idea of innocent civilians dying, but…well, 2nd Amendment rights, don’tchaknow? We’d love to help, but everyone knows that gun rights supersede everything, Right? Yes, the 2nd Amendment trumps even the right of innocent civilians not to die randomly at the hands of a violent madman carrying an AR-15.
FREEDUMB!!!
Kudos to Bee for having the balls to stand up and speak for a majority of Americans frustrated over the refusal of Republicans to do their damned jobs.
The idea of a comedian going off on a politically-slanted rant is generally not well received…but what else is there to do when you have a platform and you’re sick of innocent people dying because no does anything to fix the problem? If you substituted “Ebola” for “gun violence” when discussing public health crises, you can bet that millions would be spent on finding a cure and/or a solution. Gun violence, which absolutely is a public health crisis, gets nothing…except an overabundance of “thoughts and prayers.”
How is that even possible??
