She just won the Democratic nomination; it's time to ignore Donald Trump

Hillary Clinton on Wednesday shifted into general election mode with a series of interviews previewing a strategy centered on assailing GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump’s qualifications. Clinton will make the case that the former television reality star is “temperamentally unfit to be commander in chief,” she told NBC News. “I’m going to talk about why he’s unqualified to be president based on his own words and his deeds,” she said. She also doubled down on her attacks against Trump’s offensive rhetoric, telling The Associated Press that it reflects the “classic behavior of a demagogue.”…. “He has a very unfortunate and divisive tendency to attack all kinds of Americans. I just don’t think anybody should stand for that. It’s a classic demagogic attack,” she said.

Now that I’m beginning to get used to the idea of getting behind Hillary Clinton, the #IMWITHHER idea doesn’t seem so foreign. The idea that a woman could finally become President is pretty groundbreaking stuff; someone wrote on Twitter that it just takes female Presidents longer to get ready- in this case, 227 years. That said, there’s a long road ahead, and I’m a bit concerned about what I’m seeing so far.

There’s certainly a conversation to be had about why Donald Trump is a bad, nasty, horrible, vile, small-fingered vulgarian who’s singularly unfit to sit behind the big desk in the Oval Office. There’s little argument but that the only way The Donald should be allowed into the White House is with a tour group. I just don’t understand why that conversation has to be undertaken right now. Sec. Clinton just passed the number of pledged delegates required to secure the Democratic nomination- and one of her first official acts as the presumptive nominee is to trash Donald Trump? Really? That’s the best she’s got?

I’d feel a lot better about things if Sec. Clinton would devote time focusing on the positive. She has so much to offer; why belabor what most rational Americans already know- that Trump is a bully and a thug unfit to have access to the nuclear codes? WHAT is she going to do to move America forward? HOW is she going to accomplish her no doubt ambitious agenda? I want to know what she’s going to do and how she plans to do it; I could care less about her feelings for Trump, who deserves to be pilloried…but to what end? Why even acknowledge his existence at this point in the campaign? All that does is legitimize him as a candidate.

More than anything, I want to see Sec.Clinton run a positive campaign, and spend then next four-plus months telling us how she’ll work to make America better. She should ignore her opponent and regard him as being of no account. Engaging Donald Trump on his level on feeds into his megalomaniacal belief that he’s qualified to be President. His “Crooked Hillary” mantra is as childish and immature as it unworthy of someone who believes himself worthy of placing his right hand on John Roberts’ Bible on January 20th. I believe she can- and should- run her campaign as if she’s running unopposed. Ignore Donald Trump, perhaps even refuse to debate him, and allow him to corner the market on impotent histrionics. A bully can only win if you play his game by his rules. Change the game, and what you’ll get is a frustrated, impotent imbecile screaming into the void.

Game, set, match. Go directly to the White House. Do not pass go. Do not acknowledge the existence of Donald Trump. Do not collect $200.
