When last I checked, women comprise somewhere in the neighborhood of 50% of the American electorate. You’d think any political party possessed of any degree of common sense would want to refrain from gratuitously pissing off the distaff half of that electorate…right? How many candidates are going to stand a snowball’s chance in Hell of emerging victorious without the support of women?
There’s little doubt but that Donald Trump has the angry, racist, White male vote locked up. Women are going to be a tougher sales job…and judging solely by what’s transpired to date, Republicans aren’t even making a pretense of trying to persuade the ladies. Even the “Women Vote Trump” event at the Republican National Convention fell flat. How any rational person, even a Republican, could claim to be surprised at the lack of female support for a candidate known for virulent sexism and misogyny defies understanding.

Unless I’m missing something, it seems likely the Trump campaign is going to hope the angry, racist White guy vote will carry them to victory in November. I’m guessing it won’t be much of a surprise when he gets thumped at the polls…and an astonishing (OK, not really) lack of support from women will be the primary reason.
Who could have seen that coming?
