An Afton, Minnesota woman sounded off on abortion rights in a brilliant letter to the Minneapolis Star Tribune editor because she’s sick of the bullsh*t…. Two men had sent letters to the editor that were published June 28, following the Supreme Court’s announcement in the Texas abortion case…. “Unless you have a woman’s body, I don’t want to hear your opinion on what women’s bodies should or should not do,” Heidi Seltz wrote. “In fact, it would be a delight if the Star Tribune Editorial Board ceased publishing men’s letters about women’s bodies entirely.”…. She closed by saying that circulation might improve among younger readers if they didn’t see “old men’s fusty opinion about uteri” every time they opened the newspaper.
In a world in which Conservative White males feel entitled to hold forth at some considerable length about what women should (or should not) do with their bodies, it’s refreshing to see a woman play the “STFU” card. That Ms. Seltz chose to do this in a letter to the editor is just this side of AWESOME.
For whatever reason(s), far too many Conservative White males feel entitled to make decisions regarding lady parts…’cuz Lord knows the wimminz are way too damned emotional and irrational to be able to make informed and reasoned decisions, amiright?? Besides, with all the cooking, cleaning, and child-rearing women have to do, what woman has time to make informed decisions regarding their own reproductive health care? Don’tcha think men should be able to pitch in by taking that off their shoulders so their women can do what God put them on Earth to do?
Perhaps someday, Conservative White males will realize that they don’t, in fact, rule the world, women aren’t property, and that lady parts aren’t something that can or should be able to control. Until then, it will be up to women like Seltz to put men in their place and tell them to STFU.
