Spam irritation reaches new levels: Direct marketing group calls for federal, state restrictions
Yeah, I know; here's a shocker: people don't like spam. That probably takes absolutely no one by surprise, but when the Direct Marketing Association is calling for restrictions, something is up.
The question, of course, is what to do about spam. No matter what the "solution" might be, there is always someone out there who is one or more steps ahead of the game. Respecting state or federal laws aren't an option, since email crosses state and national boundaries. You may not like it. You may even legislate against it. The unfortunate reality is that if someone in East Bumfuckistan with a computer and the technological know-how (and a total lack of morals and ethics) decide to spam you, there isn't much you're going to be able to do, laws or no laws.
My solution? Carpet bombing. Locate the spammer, and level their villages. Once a few B-52s pass overhead and deposit their ordinance on top of them, maybe then spammers will cease and desist. Hey, if we're considering doing this to Iraq, why not spammers?
