More Hollywood foreign policy

Hoffman blasts Bush's war plans

Stop the war! Dustin Hoffman wants to get off!!

I am not going to ridicule Hoffman as just another Hollywood celebrity taking advantage of our fascination with fame in order to advance his political agenda. I could, but I won't, because I don't necessarily disagree with Hoffman, or Sean Penn, or Susan Sarandon, or Krusty the Klown, or whatever B-list actor is looking to get some face time.

What I object to is the fact that we even care what celebrities think about foreign policy. Actors and actresses are as entitled to their opinions as anyone else, but I don't see anyone trumpeting my views on war across the Internet. Hell, I do that all by myself, and NO ONE pays attention. Dustin Hoffman opens his yap on a subject about which he likely knows less than nothing, and it's front page news. What purpose do their opinions serve, other than to provide fodder for Conservatives to ridicule them?

Celebrities, like anyone else, have a role to play in our democracy. They would be better-served to remember that, while we may enjoy their movies and/or TV shows, we don't give a tinker's damn about their political opinions. Stick to what you do well; no one really cares what you think- unless you can tell us which bachelor Trista will choose.
