Governor signs Defense of Marriage Act into law
Will someone please explain to me why it is necessary to waste our tax dollars on codifying legalized discrimination?? Isn't there REAL business that Governor Goodhair and his fellow juvenile delinquents have to do- you know, what they were ELECTED to do? Funding education? Ensuring that children have health care? Getting the federal government to chase renegade Democrats?
My tax dollars are being used to fund this wasteful fundamentalist agenda? Yep, we may not have enough money for schools, our roads may be desperatley in need of repair, our children may not have health insurance, but BY GOD Texans will be safe from Gays and Lesbians who (gasp!!) want to make a commitment to one another.
AUSTIN - Same-sex marriages cannot be recognized in Texas under legislation that Gov. Rick Perry signed today.
With the new law, which is called the Defense of Marriage Act by its supporters and is opposed by homosexual rights advocates, Texas will be prevented from legally recognizing same-sex unions that are formed in other states.
Already, Texas law does not recognize same-sex marriage.
Perry signed the measure in a private meeting in his Capitol office with backers of the bill.
"Like the vast majority of Texans, I believe that marriage represents a sacred union between a man and a woman. With passage of the Defense of Marriage Act, Texas now joins more than 30 states in reinforcing that basic belief," Perry said in a prepared statement afterward.
Um, I didn't even know that Marriage was under attack. Has anyone thought of perhaps calling out the National Guard? In the meantime, Governor, don't y'all have better things to do than to institutionalize discrimination? Is this REALLY a wise use of our scarce resources??
So much for the Republican Party being the "big tent" party, especially in Texas, where, if you're not straight, narrow, and white, you're not welcome.
