This week's sign that the Apocalypse is upon us

Rickey Henderson, 44, Signs Deal with Dodgers (via michele)

It was just a matter of time, right? A few years ago, Rickey would have been eligible to play in the now-defunct Senior Baseball League at age 44. Now, he's taking his act to Los Angeles. While some might wonder about the wisdom and/or egocentricity of hanging on until his last dying breath, I must admit to admiring Henderson for his passion. Sure, he may be something of an odd duck, but the man still apparently has a functional set of wheels. Lord knows the Dodgers need all the help they can get; their offense may as well be on life support. This ought to be interesting....

It's funny, though; given Henderson's advanced age (in baseball terms), I would have thought that he would have fit in perfectly in Florida. At least he wouldn't have had far to go when he finally retires....
