In a Rush to make a big impact
I still do not believe that what Limbaugh said was worthy of all the sturm und drang and his accompanying resignation. Having said that, though, there is a part of me secretly revelling in his self-inflicted exile. Perhaps if Limbaugh weren't such a self-superior, devoid-of-compassion demagogue he would engender a bit of sympathy. Yeah, live by the sword, die by the sword, and Limbaugh simply (metaphorically speaking, of course) committed seppuku.
In the realm of his radio show, where Limbaugh's Dittoheads worship and validate his every pronouncement, he can do no wrong. Perhaps Limbaugh's mistake was in forgetting who his audience was. While many Dittoheads are football fans, not all football fans are Dittoheads- like me, f'rinstance.
No, what Limbaugh said was not maliciously racist, but it was stupid. He simply forgot the #1 rule of discussing race: DON'T DO IT! Unfortunately for Limbaugh, there are a lot of people out there (and I happily claim membership in this club) who are looking for any little thing that can be used to put an end to his demagoguery. No, we haven't removed his voice, but at least he has one less forum from which to spew forth his bile.
It's not much, but it IS a start....
