It's official: Andy Pettitte signs three-year deal with Astros
You can almost see a 1-2-3 punch of Pettitte, Wade Miller and Roy Oswalt -- in no particular order -- blowing through the playoffs for the Astros.
Thus, we wonder.
Who are you, and what have you done with Drayton McLane?
It just became a whole lot easier to be a baseball fan in Houston. I've only lived here for 6 1/2 years, but it's been long enough to become agonizingly familiar with the Astros history of building up the hopes of their fans, only to let them down not-so-easily. This is a team that has NEVER won a playoff series, in spite of the talent the franchise has had over the years. Could that change now? Perhaps. Perhaps not.
One player does not a World Series champion make. Still, signing Andy Pettitte will go a long ways toward helping fans get the bad taste of losing Billy Wagner out of their mouths. A starting rotation led by Pettitte, Wade Miller, and Roy Oswalt would be the envy of a lot of teams. You can bet the expectations will be much higher this year- especially when you consider that Pettitte has won more playoff games (13) than the Astros franchise (8).
Merry Christmas, Astros fans. It appears that the fat man in the red suit is Drayton McLane.
