To hate someone, you actually need to know them first

Hating George Bush, and loving it

I can get behind the goals of this enterprise, but I've got to question the marketing effort. Even to a unreconstructed Liberal, this sounds rather childish and immature.

Hating is fun, but too much of it, like too much garlic, can ruin a romance.

Hating can ruin a politician's romance with voters, too. You could ask some of the Republicans who thought they could dispatch Bill Clinton to oblivion if only they hated him hard enough.

Now it's the Democrats who must heed this caution. Hating George W. Bush has become the squalid pastime of some of our Beautiful People. Some of them are gathering tonight at the Beverly Hilton in Hollywood at the invitation of Laurie David, wife of the man who created the television show "Seinfeld," for something called "Hate Bush 12/2 Event."

"This is the most important meeting you can attend to prevent the advancement of the current extremist right-wing agenda," Mzz David wrote. "Do not miss this meeting. This will be a high-level briefing to discuss the strategies ... to affect what happens next November."

Yes, I can get behind the goal of this event. Removing George Bush from office SHOULD be Job One. Presenting it in terms of "hating" George W. Bush on a personal level puts Liberal Democrats on the same level as those Right-Wing trolls who hate anything Clinton. It's childish, it's counter-productive, and it's just plain WRONG. It's does nothing to contribute to our utlimate goal of removing George W. Bush from office. All hating him does is to make those of us in the opposition look small and silly.

Personal hatred has no place in this crusade. George W. Bush may be a travesty as a President, but there is no reason to despise the man on a personal level. By all accounts, Bush is a decent human being. His personal qualities (or lack of same) should have no bearing on Liberal efforts to defeat him next November.

Let's not give Conservatives any more reason to question our motives than we already have. Work to defeat Bush because you oppose his policies and his political philosophy. Leave the personal hatred out of the equation. It's not going to do our cause any good, and indeed, it will ultimately retard our efforts to attain the ultimate goal- defeating George W. Bush.

Keep your eye on the ball, y'all....
