State sues 'colonic hydrotherapy' providers
I know this is going to sound like an Aggie joke looking for a place to happen, but some folks here in Texas actually fell for this.
AUSTIN - Following serious injuries and one death, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott announced today that he has filed six lawsuits against clinics, manufacturers and a training association that allegedly promoted, sold or used prescription devices for "colonic hydrotherapy" treatments without physician approval.
The lawsuits, five filed in Dallas and one in Austin, seek temporary and permanent injunctions to protect the public from unauthorized treatments involving the thorough cleansing of the colon using prescription systems and nozzles.
"We believe the routine use of these devices without a physician's approval or knowledge is like a ticking time bomb, and the patients may not be aware of the serious health risks involved," Abbott said in a statement.
Well, duh...but who knows? Before long, perhaps some of these maroons will find themselves eligible for a DUMASS AWARD.
