...And then they'll come for the dogs

First they came for Jews, but because I wasn't Jewish, I wasn't worried. Then they came for the Catholics, but because I wasn't Catholic, I wasn't worried. Next they came for the Libertarians, but because I wasn't Libertarian, I wasn't worried. Then they came for the cats, and I was PISSED....

LUBBOCK - A self-described cat admirer said Lubbock's proposed ban on roaming cats is part of a nationwide "cat eradication plan" promoted by wildlife groups.

"This is an eradication policy going state to state," Kim Stewart told about 30 people gathered together Monday. "Now they're trying to go locally."

The city's Animal Services Department is proposing amendments to the city's pet animals ordinance, including a proposal that would make cat owners in violation if they allowed their cats to roam off their property....

Stewart said wildlife groups, particularly organizations interested in wild birds, have begun an anti-cat movement across the nation.

"Groups call themselves humane (or) say it's for the good of the cat ... but it's cat hatred. It's outdoor cat extermination."

Man, I can see it now...little kitty gas chambers dotting the landscape. Kitty concentration camps with kitty Sonderkommandos and...well, that's probably enough with the Nazi analogies, don't you think??

Somehow I would think that Lubbock probably has better things to worry about than a few strays cats. Besides, I'd be willing to bet that the city doesn't have much of a rodent problem....
