Texas official says Unitarian church not a tax-exempt religion

I can understand the need for government to validate legitimate religion for purposes of granting them tax exemptions. The problem, though, is how do you define "legitimate"? And who makes those decisions? Well, here in Texas, that decision is made by Comptroller Carol Keeton Strayhorn, a Conservative Republican. She's devised a litmus test to separate those groups she feels are legitimate religions from those she does not. The short version is that if your group believes in God, or at least a Supreme Being, you're in. Of course, by that logic, most of us Buddhists would be S.O.L. Yeah, like THAT surprises me.
