Joe DiMaggio is probably applauding in Baseball Heaven

Gagne allows two runs in ninth inning

Some streak perspective

One of the most impressive streaks in baseball (and in my mind, THE most impressive) ended last night in Dodger Stadium. Eric Gagne finally blew a save after converting 84 consecutive save opportunities. In my mind, Gagne's streak blows away Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak. Baseball fans will debate this, of course, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I admire the way that Gagne faced the press after the game and talked about how the important thing was to win. He may have blown this save opportunity, but it didn't cost the Dodgers the game. They came back in the 10th inning to beat Arizona 6-5.
