We begin tonight with a simple, indisputable fact: as a young man, President George W. Bush benefited from family connections to get a place in the Texas Air National Guard, thus avoiding service in Vietnam. As you would guess, this has led to calls for the resignation of Dan Rather.
- Jon Stewart, The Daily Show

It is a very clever trick to take a scandal about Bush and twist into a scandal about Dan Rather (who didn't help himself in the least by doggedly sticking by his "source").
On Air America, Randi Rhodes strongly suggested that the republicans created the questionable documents and gave them to Bill Burkett. She was not joking.
Seems a bit paranoid to me...
When Clinton was running for re-election, military service history was not a big campaign issue. Now, it seems that what W did or did not do in the last 18 months of his 6 year enlistment are of paramount importance. This is absurd.
But what is more absurd is that the desparate and pathetic Kerry campaign has to rely on 30 year old smears substantiated with fabricated documents to promote their candicate.
Dan Rather resign? I hope not... Now, he's funnier than The Morning Show's Jon Stewart! However, if he does leave CBS, I'm sure he'd fit right in with the crew at Air America.
Bob, Republicans have been working to collect signatures for Ralph Nader in Oregon to help him get onto the ballot there. These people are capable of ANYTHING. Rhodes' accusation, in light of this, doesn't seem all that outlandish.
I can understand how you might have a problem with people supporting a third choice on the ballot. Clearly, this would not be good for the candidate you support, so you critisize them for doing so.
The republicans are encouraging participation in our electoral process. Is this a bad thing? Would you support laws against this? (Or do you just want to bitch about it and call it unfair...)
Do you support litigation filed by demorcrats in Florida that seeks to keep Nader off the ballot there? After all, it helps your candidate...
See the contrast here? Republicans are "BAD" in Ohio, because they get people involved with an election. In Florida however, the democrats purpose to limit voter choice through litigation funded by the DNC. In the case of the former, the people are speaking, participating and are active in the political process. In the latter, a national political party is pulling strings to keep people out of the process in the several states.
