Much ado about less than nothing

NBC Nightly News Puts “ILIE” in Graphic Next to Bush’s Face

In what can only be described by a reasonable person as an unfortunate camera angle and poor video editing, NBC may have inadvertently put forth the same message I have been hammering on for so long now: BUSH LIES. No, silly, it’s highly doubtful that NBC set out to do this deliberately, no matter what you conspiracy theorists might want to believe. Get over yourselves, already….

NBC’s “RATS”? Four years ago, the NBC Nightly News took seriously the appearance of the letters “RATS,” in a single frame of an enlargement of part of the word “BUREAUCRATS,” in an anti-Gore ad from the Bush campaign. The September 12, 2000 NBC Nightly News carried two full stories on the controversy. Jump ahead four years, and on Monday night the NBC Nightly News displayed the letters “ILIE” for 16 seconds next to President George W. Bush’s face in a “Decision 2004” graphic beside anchor Tom Brokaw as he introduced a story by David Gregory.

The letters came from the word “FAMILIES” in a sign on the far side of Bush, which read: “TAX RELIEF FOR WORKING FAMILIES”

No doubt the Right-wing trolls at the Media Research Center will be all too happy to play this sorry episode up as yet more evidence of “Liberal media bias”. Yeah, right. Whatever.

The entire “RATS” episode in 2000 was as trumped up and meaningless as this one is. Outside of an unfortunate camera angle and poor production values, never mind a lack of attention to detail, how can a reasonable person claim that this was a deliberate act?

If any of y’all seriously believe that this was a deliberate act perpetrated by the “Liberal” media, I’ve got a suggestion for you. Turn off the Fox News Channel and goes outside and smell the roses. Y’all need to get out more….

Besides, if any media outlet wanted to make the (convincing) argument that George W. Bush is a liar, do you really think they would need to resort to something this juvenile? All you’d really need to do would be to discuss the war in Iraq and Bush’s fraudulent reasons for justifying the death of more than 1000 Americans. Why resort to silly tricks when the reality is so much more damaging?
