Fox News site posts falsified Kerry quotes: ‘Metrosexual’s’ talk of ‘manicures’ is later retracted
Gee, Fox News posting a false story because it is clearly anti-Kerry? Whodathunkit?? Right; and I suppose this is what passes for “fair and balanced journalism”? Just in case anyone ever had any reason to doubt FNC’s agenda, you might want to check this out:
The story, posted on foxnews.com, included phony quotes from Kerry about his performance in Thursday’s debate with President Bush.
An excerpt, found on several Web sites including washingtondispatch.com, included the following inflammatory quotes:
“Didn’t my nails and cuticles look great? What a good debate!”
“It’s about the Supreme Court. Women should like me! I do manicures.”
“I’m metrosexual, he’s a cowboy.”
The bogus report, filed by Carl Cameron, was retracted Friday afternoon. A post at foxnews.com said “the item was based on a reporter’s partial script that had been written in jest” and blamed the error on “fatigue and bad judgment, not malice.”
Yes, FNC talking heads issued the expected pro forma apologies, but while this incident may well have been an accident, it certainly is instructive of their lack of journalistic impartiality.
“Fair and balanced”? Sure, repeat it often enough and eventually people accept as Truth. Sadly, no matter how many FNC commercials proclaim themselves to be “fair and balanced”, it still doesn’t change their Right-wing agenda. FNC may as well be a de facto arm of the Republican National Committee
