Benson-led Longhorns gallop past Aggies
It’s a bitter rivalry with no name and no fancy trophy at stake. Even so, it’s annually the biggest college football game in the Great State of Texas- especially when both teams are nationally ranked and one is on the verge of qualifying for a BCS bowl.
Wait…you mean Texas can win 10 games, be ranked in the top five, and somehow NOT qualify for a BCS bowl?? Meanwhile, Boston College or Pittsburgh (not to mention Boise State) may be getting an automatic BCS bowl bid. WTF?
I know…this is college football, and how much does all of this really matter? Of course, when you consider the obscene amounts of money involved (a BCS bowl can mean $14 million in the coffers of each school versus approximately $1 million for most non-BCS bowls….), this is no small issue. What makes this whole scenario even more hypocritical is that, even with the ridiculous amount of money at stake, NONE of it is ending up in the pockets of those actually playing the games. Perhaps it’s time to do something about that inequity while we’re at it? Hmm??
