Man arrested in girlís shooting
I’ve always been astounded that you have to have a license to drive a car, own a business, hunt, or fish, but any dickweed who isn’t firing blanks and has a willing female accomplice can father a child. Yes, I am well aware of the arguments against eugenics, but shouldn’t it stand to reason that there be some sort of standard in place for determing who is fit to be a father? If there had been, there’d be one less child in this world with a gunshot wound.
LEAGUE CITY ó A Santa Fe man charged in the shooting of a 2-year-old League City girl was arrested early Friday morning.
Police said a tip indicating the man was attempting to flee the state led to his arrest in Santa Fe.
League City police Sgt. Dan Krieger said Asa Aaron Fourcade, whose hand was injured apparently by the same bullet that hit the top of the girlís left shoulder, checked out of Clear Lake Regional Medical Center Thursday against a doctorís advice. The detective said Fourcade also broke a promise to police that he would contact them once he was discharged.
√¨We received information that he was still in the area, but was looking for a way to get out of the state,√Æ said Krieger. √¨We contacted Santa Fe (police), who were instrumental in tracking him down.√Æ….
So the police actually thought a DUMB@$$ would keep his word to them? Yeah, who’s the DUMB@$$ now?? But wait, the fun is just beginning:
The shooting occurred late Tuesday night at a gathering of friends at the home of the girl and her father in the Clear Creek Heights subdivision.
One of the men in the house apparently had a Derringer pistol in his pants pocket. He brushed the pocket with his hand as he reached down to pick up the little girl standing in front of him, witnesses told police.
Somehow, the gun went off. The bullet put a hole in the manís hand before going through the top of the girlís left shoulder, police said.
The wounded man drove the girl and her father to the hospital. However, police said he apparently lost control of the truck less than a quarter of a mile from the hospital. It hit a curb and lost its left rear rim, police said.
The two men ran the rest of the way to the hospital, with the father carrying the girl.
The injury to a child charge carries a possible prison term of five to 99 years, while the weapon charge carries a possible prison term of two to 10 years. Each charge also carries a possible fine of up to $10,000.
The girlís father, David A. McMillen, too, faces a charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
The girl, who underwent surgery for her wounds, remained in the hospital Friday.
It’s easy to look at this sorry episode and realize that McMillen has no business being a father. If he put his daughter in a position where she was at risk of an armed DUMB@$$, does he deserve to keep his daughter? From where I sit, the answer is clearly no. Some folks simply do not deserve the privilege of fathering and raising children- AND IT IS A PRIVILEGE. How else are we to provide tragedies such as this?
Let us hope that CPS will, at the very least, find the child a home in which she won’t be subject to being accidentally shot. As for our latest pair of DUMB@$$E$, can we at the very least hope for some jail time? Perhaps a year or two as someone’s girlfriend might straighten them out…nah, I doubt even that would work, but it’s worth a try, no?
