Hey, it’s not as if I have to get dressed for work….
I should be starting a new position with my company today. I should be getting used to a new office, new surroundings, new responsibilities, and a new commute. Instead, I’m sitting on the couch in my living room watching SportsCenter. To say that I’m a bit surprised would be something of an understatement.
I sprained my ankle at work about a month ago, and I tried to go back to work and contribute what I could on limited duty. It appears that the ankle is not healing as expected, though, and it’s possible that in going back to work so quickly I may have overdone it. As of today, I’ve been put on a leave of absence so I can undergo physical therapy and rest the ankle. With my next appointment with my orthopedist being on March 1st, it would appear I’m on forced exile for about three weeks. I get paid through worker’s comp, so at least the bills will get paid. Things could be worse, eh?
The good thing is that my new job will be waiting for me when the orthopedist releases me to go back to work. In the meantime, though, I have an instant three-week vacation. I’ve been feeling for some time now that I could use some time off, but this is not quite what I had imagined. (File this under “Be careful what you ask for”, eh?) I’d be a lot more excited if I could at least play golf, but I can’t pivot on my ankle, so swinging a golf club is, sadly, out of the question.
It’s not as if I can’t do anything, though the theory here is that I’m supposed to stay off the ankle as much as possible. If anyone thinks I’m going to lay on the couch and watch the History Channel for three weeks, well, they’d best rethink their expectations.
So here I am, sitting on my living room couch on a Monday morning. Eric is at school, and Susan is at work. Salem the Wonder Dog is asleep by the front door, and the cats are outside.
Hmm…I wonder what’s on the History Channel?
