Now this ought to elevate the level of political discourse a notch or two

EXCLUSIVE: GOP TO LAUNCH ‘WHITE FLAG’ DEM ATTACK

It would seem that Republicans have finally admitted to themselves that they cannot debate the merits of the war in Iraq, so the only thing left to them is character assassination and insults. How else do you explain them sinking even lower that you’d previously imagined? And now they’re going to take it to the Web. Gee, I can hardly wait….

Rather than try to have a rational, reasoned debate on the issues, Republicans have decided to take the low road. The problem is that the American sheeple tend to buy into this sort of gutter politics, perhaps because it’s easier than thinking. And you wonder why Our Glorious Leader got 51% of the vote in 2004? It sure as hell wasn’t because he made a convincing case for his Presidency. No, it was about Swift Boat Vets and impugning a decorated combat veteran and turning the campaign into a discussion about everything except what really mattered. (That the Democrats put forward a candidate with the charisma of Cream of Wheat didn’t exactly help their cause….) Now, having perfected the strategy in taking down John Kerry, Republicans are now turning character asssassination into an art form…and hey, it’s a helluva lot more entertaining than a dull policy debate, no?

The DRUDGE REPORT has learned from a top GOP operative that the Republican National Committee will provide state parties with a web video prior to release tomorrow afternoon that shows a white flag waving over images of Democrat leaders making anti-war remarks.

The ad is in response to the controversial comments Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean and 2004 Democratic Presidential nominee John Kerry made earlier in the week.

Controversial statements? If attempting to speak what they see as the truth about Our Glorious Leader’s clusterf—k in Iraq is what passes for controversy, then something is horribly wrong here. Since when is freedom of speech a bad thing?…oh, wait; we’re at war. After all, loose lips sink ships, eh? And if you’re not wholeheartedly behind Our Glorious Leader, then the terrorists really have won, haven’t they??

What a load of crap….

A Democratic strategist who had the web ad described to her said, “This is way over the top but we have no one to blame but Dean, Kerry and others who continue to pander to the anti-war activists within our party.

The web video advances the Republican contention that the Democrats only have a “retreat and defeat message on the war in Iraq.

The problems here is that Democrats have allowed Republicans to frame the argument to their advantage. When you can defeat an opponent through ridicule, insults, and half-truths, why engage in a debate that no one will pay any attention to, anyway??

“Retreat and defeat”? Since when is asking hard questions about a senseless that has wasted the lives of more than 2,000 Americans defeatist? Since when is demanding some degree of accountability for this generation’s Vietnam unpatriotic or anti-American.

Perhaps it’s time for Democrats to remove our collective anterior from our posterior and stop allowing Republicans to paint us as defeatists. And since when did being an “anti-war activist” and a Democrat become a bad thing? Opposing a wasteful, pointless war that was realized through lies and deception should be a point of honor, NOT a reason for being branded as an anti-American, unpatriotic appeaser.

If this is how Republicans plan to conduct themselves, then we should all be able to recognize the GOP for the empty vessel it truly is. Just when I’d thought that they couldn’t sink any lower….
