Gentleman, start your lawyers....

McDonald’s sued over french fry ingredients

On Friday, Mark and Theresa Chimiak of Jupiter, Fla., sued the fast-food chain, claiming their 5-year-old daughter has an intolerance to gluten. On Wednesday, Nadia Sugich of Los Angeles sued McDonald’s, saying she is a vegan and would not have eaten the fries if she had known they contained dairy products. Until recently, the company had said its fries were free of gluten and milk or wheat allergens and safe for people with dietary issues related to the consumption of dairy items. But this month, the fast-food company quietly added “Contains wheat and milk ingredients” to the french fries listing on its Web site.

No one goes to McDonald’s expecting haute cuisine…and if you do, you’ve got problems I can’t begin to help you with. If you go to McDonald’s expecting but cheap, mediocre, unhealthy food…well, you’re in the right place. Even so, if you are one of the unfortunate few folks with a wheat or gluten allergy, you deserve to know just what it is that you’re getting yourself into. You’re probably pretty careful about staying away from products containing wheat or gluten, so when a multinational corporation deceives you into thinking that you’re ordering french fries that are safe for you to consume, I think you have a right to be upset. This is particularly true if that same corporation has claimed for years that it’s french fries are wheat- and gluten-free.

I can understand why the parents of children with these allergies might feel justified in firing up their attorneys. However, if you’re a vegan and you’re eating at McDonald’s…what in the hell are you thinking? D’ya really think that McDonald’s caters to your culinary predilections in any shape, manner, or form? Get your anterior out of your posterior and get a grip on reality, willya? If you’re a vegan, and you’re eating at McDonald’s, you have NO right to sue anyone (except maybe yourself for surpassing ignorance)…for ANYTHING. Get over yourself. If you’re a vegan and you’re eating at McDonald’s, you pretty much deserve what you get. In fact, perhaps McDonald’s should be suing you for having patently unreasonable and unrealistic expectations.
