Regardless of what you'd like to think, this is Republican orthodoxy

Matalin Defends Coulter’s Attack on 9/11 Widows (via AMERICAblog)

Yesterday on Imus, Mary Matlin — a former counselor to Vice President Cheney and an influential strategist for the White House — defended Ann Coulter’s vicious attack on the 9/11 widows. (In a new book, Coulter says the widows are “enjoying their husband’s deaths.”)

GOP leaders won’t own up to it, but they love Ann Coulter, because, though you’ll never hear them say this, Coulter really does speak for the Republican mainstream. The GOP of this generation really is a party built on wedge issues and divisiveness, because when you get right down to it, Republicans truly stand for only one thing- seizing and maintaining power by any means necessary. If they have to lie, obfuscate, insult, or just make crap up out of whole cloth, then so be it. Ann Coulter merely does their dirty work for them, so GOP can maintain a safe distance and pretend that they are appalled and disturbed by the hatred and vitriol spewed by Coulter and her ilk.

If anyone doubted the truth of my assertion, all you have to do is to listen to Mary Matalin, a former advisor to VP Dick Cheney, and a highly-placed voice within the Republican Party. She is every bit the heartless shrew that Coulter is…only without the hard edge and the sheer, unmitigated hatred and disdain (and the self-superior sneer) in her voice. How ANYONE could defend a woman who refers to 9.11 widows as “harpies” living the high life since the murder of their husbands is beyond me. If you think I’m kidding about this, watch Matalin in action here.

That Matalin is aggressively defending Coulter is no accident. There is a wing of the GOP, and they’re the ones in power, who see Coulter as the voice of reason, a woman willing to speak the truth to clues Liberals and whiny bleeding hearts who hate America. THIS is what you’ve voted into power, America- intolerance, bigotry, and xenophobia in the service of self-interest and the maintenance of political power at all costs.

Still glad you voted Republican?

Right; there was a very fine line between the Nazis and the Founding Fathers was the previous entry in this blog.

Opposing the war is NOT the same as not supporting our troops is the next entry in this blog.
