Justice Department Lawyer To Congress: ‘The President Is Always Right’
The Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday heard testimony from Steven Bradbury, head of the Justice Department’s office of legal counsel. When questioned by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) on whether the President’s interpretation of the Hamdan case was right or wrong, Bradbury replied, “The President is always right.”
Part of me really wants to be able to give people- even knee-jerk Conservatives- the benefit of the doubt. Sure, these folks may not think like me, but surely they’re intelligent, lucid people who have made their decisions based on their values and beliefs. Uh, well…don’t get me started on that one….
What scares me is that there very likely are many more mindless, thoughtless drones sprinkled throughout the federal government who think just like Bradbury. They march in ideological lockstep, they refuse to question what rational people know to be wrong, and they support everything Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader comes up with…because “the President is always right.”
