You can check out, but you can never leave

A Loss Of Faith

If there’s one thing BushWorld values, it’s loyalty…where never is heard a discouraging world, and the skies are not cloudy all day…. Should you be so bold as to leave BushWorld, your contract doesn’t end when you shut the office door behind you. No, these folks expect lifetime fealty, or at the very least a lifetime of loyal silence. David Kuo violated the Code because he felt it was the right thing to do, and now he’s facing a shitstorm from the Right he expected. And it only promises to get worse.

So what heinous crime is Kuo guilty of? What trespass did he commit upon the vaunted Bush family code of loyalty? It sounds like he told the truth….

BAD DOG!! BAD DOG!!!

(CBS) David Kuo is an evangelical Christian and card-carrying member of the religious right, who got a job in the White House in the president’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. He thought it was a dream-come-true: a chance to work for a president whose vision about compassionate conservatism would be matched with sweeping legislation to help the poor.

But Kuo says the so-called compassion agenda has fallen short of its promise and he blames President Bush for that in his new book….he also says the White House was a place that cynically used religion for political ends and that White House aides ridiculed the very Christian leaders who helped bring Mr. Bush to office.

David Kuo is now persona non grata among the Evangelical neocons, who would like nothing more than to supply him with a metaphorical pair of concrete overshoes and give him a one-way express ticket to the bottom of the East River- metaphorically speaking, of course. Over the next few days and weeks, expect any number of Right-wing columnists and apologists to come out firing with both barrels. These folks HATE it when one of their own turns on them. Even if they’re wrong- and on some level these trolls have to know they are- loyalty to the cause is valued above all else. When one of their trusted members goes off the reservation and decides to “tell the truth”, you can bet that the dogs of war will be loosed upon them. Already we’re seeing Kuo’s reputation, faith, and even sanity questioned…and it’s only going to get worse.

The sad reality is that honoring Jesus Christ and his teachings is the LAST thing on the minds of the Evangelical knuckle-draggers currently in power. It’s not about love, it’s not about charity, and it’s certainly not about helping the least of those among us. No, it’s about one thing- power and money (well, OK, two things….). Religiosity just happens to be the means to their end. If these troglodytes are Christians, I’m the Queen of England….

In evaluating Kuo’s story, we should keep in mind that he has a book to sell, which means he’s not exactly the disinterested altruist you might like to think he is. After watching the interview with him on 60 Minutes, though, I’m fairly well convinced that there’s more truth than self-interest in Kuo’s assertions. Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader and his neocon thugs may talk the talk, but there is precious little in their actions to demonstrate that they are or ever will walk the walk. Jesus is not a Republican. No matter how much those in power might try to convince us that the Almighty is on the side of Conservative Republicans, this is simply no more that profound and craven self-interest at work.

STILL GLAD YOU VOTED REPUBLICAN?
