WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Joe Lieberman, who won re-election as an independent, has a message for his Senate colleagues in the next Congress: Call me a Democrat. The three-term Connecticut lawmaker defied party leaders when he launched his independent bid after losing to Democrat Ned Lamont in the August primary. During the campaign, he vowed to be an “independent-minded Democrat” if he were re-elected. In Tuesday’s election, Lieberman won strong GOP support and given the closely divided Senate, Republicans are expected to court him. So will he count as a Democrat or an independent who caucuses with the majority Democrats? In an e-mail message late Thursday, Lieberman spokesman Dan Gerstein said the senator will begin his new term as a Democrat.
You lose the Democratic primary in Connecticut, but you’re enamored of your job and just egotistical enough to ignore the will of your constituents. So what do you do? You run as an independent, siphon off most of Connecticut’s Republican votes, and defeat Ned Lamont, the Democratic candidate, in the general election. As a reward, you get to pretend you’re a Democrat again. Yes, kids, this is what happen when your ego convinces you that your ambition is far more important than the will of the people.
Just think; if Al Gore had a pair, Lieberman would be Vice President. Hmm…perhaps things happen for a reason, eh??
The worst part of this whole charade is that Harry Reid is willing to welcome Lieberman back into the Democratic fold as if nothing happened. Lieberman gets to keep his seniority, which means he’ll be getting some plum committees assignments. Hell of a reward for a closet Republican who cares only about his continued employment, isn’t it?

Lieberman may want us to call him a “Democrat”, but I’ve got a better- and more accurate- name for him. Let’s just call him what he is- a DUMB@$$.
