Rep-Elect Ellison Responds To GOP Goode’s Anti-Muslim Attacks: “I’m As American As They Come”
Mr. Ellison dismissed Mr. Goode’s comments, saying they seemed ill informed about his personal origins as well as about Constitutional protections of religious freedom. “I’m not an immigrant,” added Mr. Ellison, who traces his American ancestors back to 1742. “I’m an African-American.”….In other words, Goode’s attack is not only bigoted, it’s also ignorant. Nevertheless, Ellison told the New York Times, “I’m looking forward to making friends with Representative Goode, or at least getting to know him. I want to let him know that there’s nothing to fear. The fact that there are many different faiths, many different colors and many different cultures in America is a great strength.”
It would have been easy to respond to DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) with ridicule and a verbal smackdown- Hell, I did- but to his credit, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) has chosen to take the high road. He would have been well within his rights to rip Goode a new one for being such a smug, obsequious, and bigoted asswipe (which Goode richly deserves). In a decision that should spark nothing if not admiration, Ellison has decided not to err on the side of rancor and ill feelings.
While Goode is enjoying his 15 minutes, and while the GOP is maintaining stone silence (Can you IMAGINE the hue and cry, the weeping and gnashing of teeth that would be emanating from the GOP if Goode were a DEMOCRAT??), Keith Ellison has decided that revenge is a dish best served cold. Clearly, Ellison sees no need to point out what a @!#$%)& hypocrite Goode is, because Goode has done it all by himself. Anything Ellison does at this point would be redundant and would make him look small. By rising above the fray and letting Goode stew in his own ignorance and stupidity, Ellison is proving that the best revenge really is living well.
While Virgil Goode may be smug in his belief that his position on immigration and the threat posed by Muslims in America is beyond question, Keith Ellison is living his beliefs. That’s certainly more than Goode, a confirmed DUMB@$$ if ever there was one, and who no doubts views himself as a pious and committed Christian, seems to be capable of.
So who says that hypocrisy and DUMB@$$ AWARDS don’t go hand in hand?? And shouldn’t the silence emanating from the Right be indicative of just how morally bankrupt the Republican Party really is? Yes, it should be…and it most certainly is.
